People With Recovery & Disabilities . . Working for Respect & Dignity |

| WHAT IS PWRD? We are a grassroots, consumer run and operated group of individuals with different types of disabilities, in various stages of recovery. We believe that through EMPOWERMENT we can recover, and help others recover. |

| "By US for US" |

| Our Vision We speak with a common voice to advocate and create change. We are peer-run and self-sustaining. We seek a home of our own where community members are welcomed, educated and nourished in a healthy environment. |

| PWRD has been helping the Tucson community since 1998. We are now completely consumer-operated and seeking our own location, funding and non-profit status. We are a grassroots group of people living with and recovering from various types of disabilities, working to address many issues, including independence, physical and mental health and increased connections and referral to resources for people in the disability community. By using resources more efficiently, we can lower costs to our overburdened health care system, while empowering our members and addressing their needs more effectively. We publish The PWRD VOICES and an event calendar monthly. Call any of us (numbers on the contact page) to get more information or to sign up for our mailing list! |
| In My Unhumble Opinion … Cletis Beegle WE ARE THE GOVERNMENT My Mother was a registered Democrat and my Dad a registered Republican. They were both sixth generation natives of Appalachia, and my Father's great-grandmother was of the Tuscarora Nation. I often wondered, how many generations do your forbears have to live here for one to qualify as Native American? Is it anything like becoming registered as an historic building? I tried to tell my Mother that WE are the government. She never really comprehended that. Now, I try to tell the members of our recovery community. The message was heard. On May 16, WE showed up. WE exercised OUR franchise to vote and WE won! Overwhelmingly! This moment is historic. To effect positive change, WE must continue to make OUR voice heard. OUR power is in OUR numbers, WE are everywhere. Find a group and attach your-self. PWRD. The Long Rangers. Nueva Luz. Our Place Clubhouse. Take YOUR pick. Find YOUR place. Show up for YOU and stay for US. Isolation is never the answer. |
ONLY consumers who have been through the behavioral health system and have learned to manage their symptoms can use that experience and knowledge of the system to help other consumers in need. |
Your Voice Counts! We Won on May 16th! Are YOU registered to vote in the next election? |
Ballot and voter registration information and materials are available at all PWRD meetings. |
